    When Does Naruto Become Hokage

Naruto becoming Hokage is slightly confusing because Naruto’s Hokage ceremony takes place at a certain time which is hard to navigate in the entire storyline.

Every Naruto fan eagerly waited for him to become the Hokage since the very first episode and now that he finally became, it is hard to clearly know when exactly did this happen. This article will clear most doubts relating to Naruto’s Hokage ceremony so let’s get started.

This article will be talking in detail about “When Does Naruto become Hokage“.

Did Naruto Become Hokage in Naruto Shippuden?

    No.

Naruto doesn’t become Hokage in the entire run of Naruto Shippuden. Unfortunately, we don’t see him becoming Hokage which is something most fans wanted to happen. But due to plot reasons, Kishimoto just couldn’t make Naruto the Hokage in Shippuden.

After Naruto and Sasuke’s fight at the final valley, the 4th Great Ninja War came to an end. After the war, Naruto was known as the hero who saved the world, but he still wasn’t mature enough to take the title of Hokage. He was still a Genin without any Jonin level knowledge and had a long way to go as a ninja. Naruto surpassed all the Hokage’s long time ago in terms of strength and skills, but he still had to improve his political knowledge to lead an entire village.

Due to these reasons Tsunade, the elders, and the council decided to make Kakashi the next Hokage. After becoming the Hokage, Kakashi made Naruto take lessons and take the exam and become a Jonin so that he can soon be capable enough to become Hokage. Thus, we never got to see Naruto becoming Hokage because Shippuden ends immediately after the war and Kakashi stays as Hokage for several years.

Did Naruto Become Hokage in Boruto?

When Does Naruto Become Hokage 2

    NO.

Naruto doesn’t become Hokage in Boruto. Naruto is already a Hokage with some years into his tenure.

Naruto became the Hokage a few years before the events in the Boruto anime and the manga takes place.

This is quite evident as we see Naruto as the Hokage in the very first episode. Then we also see massive development in the infrastructure, technology, and economic growth of the Leaf Village. This basically means that Naruto has been Hokage for some years and has been continuously working for the development of the Village.

We also see Boruto repeatedly hating Naruto’s job while saying that Naruto was always home and took care of Boruto and Himawari before he became Hokage. This means that Naruto was not a Hokage when Boruto and Himwari were born and became a few years after their birth.

    When Did Naruto Become Hokage?

When Does Naruto Become Hokage 3

Naruto became Hokage in a blank period which is covered neither in Naruto Shippuden or Boruto. Naruto becoming Hokage is also not covered in any of the novels or the manga. Naruto simply became Hokage in a blank period that falls under the time skip between Naruto Shippuden and Boruto.

We can make some assumptions to know when exactly he became a Hokage but these are only assumptions as there are no definitive answers. Naruto became Hokage approximately 7-8 years after the birth of Boruto. This is just an assumption calculating Naruto’s marriage and Boruto’s birth. This will be explained in more detail later.

When Do We See Naruto’s Hokage Ceremony?

Fortunately, we do get to see Naruto’s Hokage ceremony. There are two ways on how you could watch this.

    • After the end of Naruto Shippuden, the writers made an OVA which is titled “The Day Naruto Became Hokage” and is around 10-15 minutes. This OVA covers the entire Hokage ceremony of Naruto and we finally see our beloved character achieving his dream.
    • If you are watching the anime “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” then you can skip the OVA because, in episode 18 of Boruto, we see the same ceremony of Naruto becoming Hokage. The episode is titled “A Day in the Life of the Uzumaki Family”. It is a great episode to watch where we see several interactions between the Uzumaki family and Naruto’s Hokage ceremony.

What Was Naruto’s Age When He Became Hokage?

When Does Naruto Become Hokage 5

Now we will try and calculate Naruto’s age when he became the Hokage. Let me be very clear that there’s no way we can give a definitive answer on what was his age and we can make only assumptions at this point because nowhere is it stated when exactly did Naruto’s Hokage ceremony take place. So, here’s how we determine his age.

Naruto’s age at the end of Shippuden was 17 as his 17th birthday was on the last day of the war.

Naruto’s age in “The Last: Naruto the Movie” was 19 years. This is stated in the Last novel that 2 years had passed since the end of the war which makes him 19. At the end of the movie, Naruto and Hinata are together.

Naruto and Hinata probably got married after a short time after the events of the movie. It is assumed that Boruto was born when Naruto was 20.

Boruto in the anime is 12 as your age needs to be a minimum of 12 to become a Genin so it is obvious as he becomes a Genin in the first few episodes of Boruto. Himawari is 4-5 years younger than him which means that currently, she is 7-8.

During Naruto’s Hokage ceremony Boruto and Himawari were younger than their current age. Boruto was approximately 7-8 years whereas Himawari was 4-5 years.

So, assuming that Boruto is 7-8 years when Naruto became Hokage then Naruto’s age would be around 27-28 Years. Naruto is around 32-33 at the start of Boruto anime which means that Naruto has been Hokage for a couple of years before the Boruto anime.
